Are Book Trailers Worth the Effort?

Lately, I have been thinking about the possibility of making a book trailer for The Clocksmith. However, I am still undecided on the issue. The act of making one will not be a problem in itself. I have plenty of training in the use of cameras and editing software, as well as access to decent equipment. But even though I am able to make one, it will still take a lot of time and I don’t know if a book trailer is something that would help in gathering more sales.
What are your opinions on book trailers? Are they effective, annoying, or somewhere in between?
