Brigard Fact #35

During a traditional Brigardine wedding, the bride’s father will challenge the groom to a mock duel. Naturally, the groom wins, and the father of the bride then presents the couple with a glass of wine as a symbol of shared triumph over adversity. Among wealthier families, the swords used in the ‘duel’ will be elaborately crafted and kept by the newly married couple. These swords are known as wedding sabers and typically aren’t the least bit functional.
