Brigard Fact #39

Those swords which received blessings were forged in a time when the land itself was believed to possess divine energies. As such, the blessing ritual involved plunging the blade into a mixture of ash and fertile soil, specially prepared by a priest. The ground was thought to actively try to reclaim its lost potency and would do so if the sword was left pointing downward, hence the practice of mounting them with the blade pointed to the sky.
