Reading to an Audience

Yesterday, I was asked to read an excerpt from The Clocksmith to an audience for the first time. The audience in question was a creative writing group I’ve been attending lately, but the experience was nonetheless nerve-wracking. I found that odd, since I’ve read work aloud before without a problem. I now suspect it was a combination of not having seen the opening pages of my novel for some time now and the personal importance of what I was reading.

Have any of you had similar experiences with reading your writing?
